• Cards of Africa

  Cards from Africa is the newest producer group to be represented at Just Fare Market. This company was started by British, Chris Page, in 2004, inspired by a Kenyan doctor who had started a similar endeavor to generate income for women in a Nairobian slum. Chris teamed up with Rwandan artist Gabriel Dusabe and together they learned how to make paper and create simple card prototypes. Their first employee was a young orphaned woman named Ariette. After one month's time they asked her to bring another friend to train but she brought two! Shortly after, twenty more orphaned youth were trained and the business was born. Profits are continually reinvested into company operations as well as the lives of the young workers. Located on the outskirts of Kigali, Rwanda, Cards from Africa is a bustling atmosphere of skilled paper crafters and creative card makers. At the end of the afternoon, the employees bring home an income that is 4 to 6 times higher than the average Rwandan's $1 per day. These employees are the heads of their orphaned households, and they use this money to feed and clothe their younger brothers and sisters as well as purchase medicine and provide school tuition when needed. Cards of Africa fosters a sense of self-worth and capability. They invest in the employees' future by teaching them practical business skills. A new found confidence, coupled with practical skills, gives the young employees both reason and justification to save their money. In partnering with Rwandan youth, Cards of Africa provides the key to opportunity, but ultimately expects each worker to unlock the oppression of poverty themselves. • Arte Comasagua presents Portraits of El Salvador

  Just Fare Ltd. is excited to share with you beautiful handcrafted greeting cards from the "Portraits of El Salvador" collection. These cards are not only unique pieces of artwork, they represent women coming together to create a more beautiful world for themselves and their family. In 2001, massive mud slides and a devastating earthquake left many families in the highlands of El Salvador homeless and jobless. Men and women were forced to travel long hours to find work in the city since their fields were destroyed.  Traveling long distances meant less time spent with family, their children and low paying jobs that were often unrewarding. To better their lives, a group of enterprising women formed Arte Comasagua, an artisans’ organization that handcrafts stylish designs from native flowers and plants. Each Fair Trade greeting card is handmade with real pressed wild flowers and native plantings from the cloud forest of El Salvador. Just Fare receives these cards from wholesaler Hope for Women a Fair Trade company that brings premium quality products created by women artisans to the mainstream marketplace.
